Shotontro Prarthy Oikya Parishad to boycott polls

Shotontro Prarthy Oikya Parishad on Saturday demanded the Election Commission to cancel the election schedule for January 7 and hold the next polls under a neutral caretaker government.

“The people of the country become disappointed observing the voter less elections in 2014 and 2018.

Those two previous polls proved that the Election Commission really failed to play its role.

In such, the EC should cancel the polls schedule and the next polls should hold under a non-party caretaker government,” Alhaj Md. Abdur Rahim, Chairman, of the parishad said it while addressing a press briefing at its central office in Bijoy Soroni in the capital.

Md. Ainul Haque and Akbar Hossain Faiton including other leaders of the parishad were present in the event.

Alhaj Md. Abdur Rahim said that the nation might fall in a dire situation if the government try to hold the lopsided election without rescheduling it.

“The government has to take all responsibilities if any violate situation creates over the polls and if the people face any harm,” Abdur Rahim said.

He said that their parishad has sent letters to the President of Bangladesh and the Election Commission in these regards.
He said that they have decided to boycott the polls after contacting independent candidates’ aspirants across the country.

“If the government holds the lopsided election ignoring our demand, we will observe the situation of the election day for giving information to the people,” he said.
