Ruling party involved in arson, terrorism: BNP
Staff Reporter :
The main opposition party BNP on Tuesday accused the ruling Awami League of being behind the ongoing arson and terrorism across the country only to blame the BNP.
“It is not the BNP, but the ruling AL that is the mastermind of the arson and terrorism. They are involved in the recent arson attacks across the country only for blaming the BNP,” Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General said while addressing a virtual press briefing.
Rezvi said, “The arson and terrorisms are going on patronised by the state.
Awami League itself, the government itself, is the mastermind behind the arson and terrorism aiming to give blame to the BNP.”
He claimed that people belonging to Awami League were involved in all the incidents of arson attacks that happened centering the ongoing movement of the BNP and its allies.
Claiming that BNP is not involved in any terrorism, Rizvi said, “We are a liberal democratic party. We have never come to power by resorting to terrorism or arson attacks in the past and the BNP don’t want to do it now as well.”
The BNP leader said their party leaders and activists have been subjected to repressions and suppressions over the party’s recent rallies, but there was no provocation from BNP’s side.
Rizvi said most of the incidents of arson attacks have taken place near to police check posts as the ruling party is involved with those.
“They (AL) are doing such arson and terrorism for creating panic among the countrymen. The inactiveness of law enforcers to prevent the arson attackers proved that the ruling party men are behind those incidents,” Rizvi said.
The BNP leader said video footage of several arson attacks also proved that the AL people are involved with that as the drivers of those attacked vehicles gave statements.
As evidence, Rizvi said, “On November 6, police arrested Feni Jubo Leage leader Nurul Uddin during an arson attack in Chattogram and on November 14, police detained Natore AL leader Tashrik Zaman Rifat. But both the AL men were released later.”
The BNP leader alleged that such incidents happened across the country everyday aiming to divert people from the government’s effort of holding lopsided polls.
Rizvi asked the people to make the ongoing peaceful movement including blockades and hartals a success to oust the government and hold the next election under a caretaker government.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Janata Party Coordinator Omar Faruk and Spokesperson Ashraf Uddin in a statement have urged the ongoing movement.
They also asked the government to release BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the other political leaders immediately.
