Hartal, blockade peacefully observed in Barishal

The 48-hour blockade called by the main opposition party BNP along with the half-day hartal of the Left Democratic Alliance, was observed loosely and peacefully in Barishal

Although the number of passengers is less, the water and road transport movements were normal in different routes with less number of movements and transports.

The half-day strike was called by the Left Democratic Alliance demanding resignation of the fascist ruling government, elections under a non-partisan government, rejecting one-sided elections and protesting announcement of anti-people schedule for one-sided elections.

Members of different law enforcing agencies have been deployed at various intersections of the city to maintain law and order situation.

The activists of the Left Democratic Alliance on Thursday from 6 am to 11 am tried to obstruct the movement of vehicles on internal roads including picketing on Hospital Road, Sadar Road, Kakalibari and Fazlul Haque Avenue roads.

But the transport moved normally within a short time after the intervention of the police.

On the other hand, activities of courts and various government offices were normal, but big showrooms and commercial areas also functioning with few numbers of customers than normal period.

Left Democratic Alliance Barishal district branch Member Secretary Professor Shah Azizur Rahman Khokon chaired the picketing addressed by Communist Party Barishal district branch president Professor Mizanur Rahman Salim, BSD Barishal district branch member secretary Dr. Manisha Chakraborty, Samajtantrik Sramik Front leader Dulal Mallik and Samajtantrik Chhatra Front leader Bijaon Sarker.

On the other hand, during the picketing of the hartal, BSD leader Dr. Manisha Chakroborty and other activists of the Left Democratic Alliance said that 13 lakh crore taka were smuggled during the 14 years rule of this dictatorial fascist government.

No public believes that there can be any free and fair elections with mass participations in this country with Sheikh Hasina in power, they added.

We will not allow Sheikh Hasina to hold a one-sided election on January 7th. We expect that if this schedule and election is not canceled for the sake of the peace of the country, a tough program will be given, they said.

District Superintendent of Police Wahidul Islam said that the policemen are ready to deal with any kind of situation.

Police patrols have been increased along with increased intelligence surveillance to avoid subversive activities.
