BNP Legal Affairs Secy Kayser: EC working as an agent to renew tenure of current AL regime

BNP Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Kayser Kamal on Thursday said the Election Commission (EC) is working like an agent to renew the tenure of the current regime headed by Sheikh Hasina, and declaring the schedule of the 12th Parliamentary election is part of that agenda.

He said this during a briefing to the reporters at his chamber in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) building on Thursday.

The lawyer further said, “If there was truly an Election Commission, surely they would have had ample opportunity to conduct an acceptable and participatory fair election.

However, what is happening now is cheating the nation. The Election Commission has taken up the agency of power renewal with the help of state machineries.”

“The people of the country instantly rejected the schedule announced by the Election Commission. BNP does politics with the people of the country.

Since they (the people of the country) have rejected this arbitrary Election Commission schedule, BNP and every other party involved in the ongoing movement have rejected it. Our program in this regard will be announced soon.

BNP is continuing its movement to restore the voting rights of the people of the country. Many say that Bangladesh is walking the path of North Korea.
BNP is working to bring back the country from this situation, to establish our right to vote, to restore democracy, so that the state machineries work for the welfare of the citizens of the state.

The elections of the 2014 and 2018 are clear proof that as long as the election will be held under a party government, it will not be fair.

This election commission is the product of an illegitimate and unelected government. It has taken up the plan to renew the tenure of the illegitimate regime. It is renewing of the current regime in the name of election schedule.”
