Bangladesh sees 24 highest single-day dengue deaths

Bangladesh today witnessed 24, the highest single-day dengue death this year, while 1,623 were admitted to different hospitals in the country during the last 24 hours till 8 am on Wednesday.
“The death toll from dengue infection crossed the 1520-mark as the authorities recorded 1,623 dengue deaths between January 1 and November 15 this year,” a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
“During the period, 349 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city while 1,623 were admitted to different hospitals outside the capital city,” the DGHS daily statement added.
“This year, 1,420 deaths, the highest in a year since dengue was detected in 2000, were reported from dengue disease while 281 died last year,” the statement said.
With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 2,96,665 the statement said, adding: “This year, some 2,89,390 patients were released from different hospitals out of the total patients.”
A total of 5,755 dengue patients, including 1,507 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
So far, the DGHS has recorded 2, 96,665 dengue cases and 2,89,390 recoveries this year.
September has so far been the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak this year with 396 fatalities and 79,598 cases, according to DGHS data.
