Police halt IAB’s protest march at Shantinagar

The scheduled protest march of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) towards the Election Commission (EC) headquarters was ended at Shantinagar in the capital on Wednesday in face of heavy obstruction from the police blocking road with barbed wire fences.

The procession, aimed to protest the announcement of the schedule for the upcoming general election, started from the north gate at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque around 3:30 am on Wednesday.

It proceeded through the Nightingale Intersection to Kakrail and then reached the Shantinagar Intersection.

During the demonstration, traffic was halted on the several roads in the area, but returned to normal around 4:15 pm.To obstruct the protest march, police put up barricades on the road.

Though the protesters crossed the first fencing of the two-tiered security barricades, but could not cross the second one.

Later, Maulana Syed Mosaddek Billah Al-Madani, Joint Secretary General of the party, addressed the party men there.
