BFF wants to stage SAFF Women’s Championship

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) wants to stage South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship. Bangladesh Women’s Football team are the reigning champions of the SAFF Women’s Championship, the most prestigious football meet for the women of the South Asian Region.

The SAFF Championship will be held in October of 2024. Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan are also interested to stage the SAFF Women’s Championship.

The BFF is the only organization, which showed interest to stage SAFF Under-19 Women’s Championship.BFF, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka have showed their interest to stage SAFF Under-20 Men’s Championship. No football organisation of South Asian Region showed their interest to stage SAFF Under-16 Women’s Championship and SAFF Under-17 Men’s Championship.

General Secretary of South Asian Football Federation Anwarul Haq Helal said, ” we have got more than one country, which have showed their interest to stage the particular football meets.

On the other hand, only one country have showed their interest to stage a football tournament. We shall take part in a meeting soon to discuss about the venues and the hosts in our meeting of the competition committee. The competition committee will submit their opinion in the executive committee. The executive committee will finalise the decision of the venues and the hosts.”

The prime venue for the football competition is Bangabandhu National Stadium. The renovation works are going on that stadium. So, Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the capital is the only alternate venue.

Chairperson of the Women’s Wing of the BFF Mahfuza Akter Kiron said, ” We want to stage the SAFF Under-19 Women’s Championship in Kamalapur in February. If the Bangabandhu National Stadium will not prepare to stage the SAFF Women’s Championship before October, we shall stage that tournament in Kamalapur.

Meanwhile, India will take part in the football competitions in Central Asia. So, a question is arisen that if India will leave their membership from SAFF.

Helal said, ” India is with SAFF. It submitted their entries in the tournaments of SAFF. As an invitational team India can play in the tournaments out of the SAFF. Earlier, they took part in the different tournaments, which are out of the SAFF.
