We want a pollution-free DU campus
Habibur Rahman :
We the students of Dhaka University want a healthy, beautiful, clean, useful, student-friendly campus for studies.
But currently, if we compare the DU campus with Gulistan’s Chora Bazar or Vijay Sarni’s alley, the comparison will not be exaggerated.
With the advancement of technology, we are losing the environment to study and pay attention in class.
When the campus should be quiet, noise-free, disciplined, having a favourable environment without traffic jams, at present we see the campus is experiencing traffic jams.
Crossing a road at DU is now a matter of fear for the common student due to heavy traffic.
It seems as if the drivers hit the road with a thousand preoccupations. To say they are insane is an understatement.
We saw the death of a woman who was crushed under the car of a DU teacher. Thousands of such incidents are happening.
Even if not dead, many are injured. Besides, there are crowds of rickshaws and motorcycles.
Excessive honking of vehicles disturbs students’ concentration during class hours. But honking during class is strictly prohibited on the campus.
In this way, the students are disturbed to listen to lecture; the teacher also loses the flow of his lecture.
The slogans from various political and non-political programmes and vehicle horns are enough to distract attention.
It was also seen that during the semester final examination on the fifth floor of Kalabhavan, a department was making their presence through mike, playing programme songs. Amid this, how a candidate can keep his mind to his exam book! This writer is an eyewitness to this situation.
The atmosphere of study in the campus, the atmosphere of attention in the class is getting polluted due to various reasons.
From excrement to dirt, garbage can be seen everywhere. While other pollution can be controlled, the prevalence of noise pollution is not under control.
In this uncontrolled noise pollution, the student’s physical and mental illness starts from the study condition.
The students outside the hall go home from this traffic environment of the campus and fail to pay attention to their daily studies. They do not have normal attention. It seems that they are always in a daze.
In terms of studies, it is important not only to have a healthy body and mind, but also to bring the study environment, the campus environment to a safe, controlled and tolerable level.
The number of vehicles on the campus should be brought to a controlled level. The horn should be kept as tolerable as possible during the campus. It is better if it is not honked.
We strongly draw the attention of the administration to make the campus student-friendly and suitable for studies.
If the administration gives its kind attention then this pollution problem will decrease and we common students will get a healthy and study-friendly campus.
