5 BNP leaders arrested in Manikganj

On the first day of the three-day blockade program called by BNP and like-minded parties, traffic was low on the Dhaka-Aricha highway and various connecting roads on Tuesday.
Ferries, launches on Aricha-Kazirhat, Paturia-Daulatdia routes are virtually closed.
Due to the lack of passengers, the movement of minibuses, CNG, auto tempos increased on district and upazila level roads around 9/10 in the morning, but it was less than normal. No long-distance coaches, buses operated.
Meanwhile, as part of the peace rally announced by the Awami League, the leaders and activists took positions at various bus stands and important junctions of the upazila to keep the traffic on the highway normal.
Vehicular movement was observed largely unhindered during the blockade program under the watchful guard of the police.
Meanwhile, BNP marchers and 10 police activists were injured in Manora area west of Manikganj bus stand. District BNP Vice President Advocate Azad Hossain Khan, Municipal BNP President Nasir Uddin Ahmed Jadu, District Farmers Dal former President Jamil Uddin Ahmed Monir, District Labor Dal General Secretary A Razzak Liton and Municipal Youth Dal leader Arif Hossain were arrested by the police from the spot.
In four separate cases, 359 people including BNP Chairperson’s Advisor and District BNP President Afroza Khan Rita and General Secretary SA Kabir Jinnah have been made accused. Besides, Joint General Secretary of Ghior Upazila BNP Jane Alam, Local Government Secretary of Nali Union BNP Raja Mia, Sadar Thana BNP workers Khalil Mia and Rana Mia, Singair Thana BNP workers Nazmul Hossain and Md Salahuddin were arrested.
