ICC Men's CWC: South Africa tame Kiwis thrashing by 190 runs

South Africa recorded a massive 190-run victory over New Zealand in their seventh match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune of India on Wednesday.

After yesterday’s outcome, the Proteas collected 12 points from seven matches, while the Kiwis bagged eight points from as many outings.

Sent into bat first, South Africa piled up a mammoth total of 357 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then shot out New Zealand for 167 off 35.3 overs.

South Africa had a modest start as opener Temba Bavuma (24) was caught at the slip by Mitchell Santner off Trent Boult when the Proteas’ score was 38.

Opener Quinton de Kock and one-down Rassie van der Dasen put on together 200 runs for the second wicket partnership before Kock was caught at the backward point by Glenn Phillips off Tim Southee when South Africa’s total 238.

In-form Kock cracked a superb 114.

His 116-ball innings was laced with 10 fours and three sixes.

It is Kock’s fourth century in this ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

After Kock’s dismissal, Dasen and second down David Miller built another notable partnership contributing together 78 runs in the third wicket stand before Dasen was bowled out by Southee when the African’s score was 316 for the loss of three wickets.

Dasen hammered a terrific 133.

His 118-ball knock had five sixes and nine fours.

He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding innings.

Miller and third-down Heinrich Klaasen added 35 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Miller was caught at the long-off by Mitchell Santner off James Neesham when South Africa’s total was 351 for the loss of four wickets.

Miller hit a gritty 53.

He hit four sixes and two fours in his 30-ball innings.

Southee got two wickets conceding 77 runs, while Trent Boult took one wicket for 49 runs.

Later, South African bowlers totally dominated the New Zealand batters. Keshav Maharaj captured four wickets in the space of 46 runs, while Marco Jansen claimed three wickets at the cost of 31 runs and Gerald Coetzee picked up two wickets instead of 41 runs.

Besides, Kagiso Rabada took one wicket for 16 runs.

Fourth-down Glenn Phillips and opener Will Young were the two batters of New Zealand who could make respectable scores.

Phillips hit a polished 60. His 50-ball innings was ornamented with four sixes and four fours.

Will made 33 from 37 deliveries including five fours.
