More than 600 fishermen get punishment in last 17 days in Barishal

Thirty-six fishermen have been sentenced to jail in last 24 hours after raids were carried out in different rivers of Barishal division while catching hilsa in violation of the ban. In addition, a fine of 72 thousand rupees has been imposed.

With this number, total 610 fishermen have been sentenced to imprisonment for different terms in 570 cases in the last 17 days. Besides, a fine of 10 lakh 43 thousand 100 taka was imposed during this period.

Assistant Director of Fisheries Nasir Uddin said from the early October 12 to the midnight of November 2, hilsa extraction, transportation and marketing will be prohibited throughout the country, including the main breeding ground of 7,000 square kilometers.

At this time, 3 lakh 7 thousand 841 fishermen of Barishal division are being given 25 kg of rice, he added
According to the information received from the Divisional Fisheries Office, 2 thousand 41 raids were conducted in Barishal Division from early October 12 to October 29 at 8 am and 798 mobile courts were conducted.

Whereas in the last 17 days, the officers of the district and upazila offices of the Directorate of Fisheries visited 239 times different fish landing centers, 3 thousand 347 times different fish ghats, 5 thousand 725 times different arats and 3 thousand 682 times different markets of Barisal division.
