Rampal power plant’s second unit begins trial run
News Desk :
The second unit of the coal-based Rampal Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat began power generation on a trial basis on Tuesday.
It will generate 400 MW of electricity at the beginning of the trial production, said Anwarul Azim, deputy general manager of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL), on Tuesday.
On 17 December 2022, the first unit of the thermal power plant started operations.
Despite several closures since then, the power plant’s first unit is currently operational.
The power generation capacity of the two-unit power plant is 1,320 MW.
India and Bangladesh jointly took the initiative to build this thermal power plant in 2010. An agreement was signed between Bangladesh Power Development Board and India’s NTPC Limited on Jan 29, 2012.
According to the agreement, a company named Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt) Limited (BIFPCL) was formed.
Under this company, the construction of a 1,320MW Maitri Super Thermal Power Project (Rampal) was started.
