Deep depression intensifies into cyclone storm ‘Hamun’

Different divisions and many places including the capital Dhaka is going to experience moderate rain and thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind due to deep depression created in the Bay of Bengal.
According to the Meteorological Department, the rainfall will continue for the next 72 hours and all maritime ports had been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three on Monday due to the deep depression which will turn into Cyclone ‘Hamun’.
Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions; at many places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over southern part of the country on Tuesday, Met office said.
The day and night temperature may fall by 1-2 degree Celsius over the country, the Met office said, adding that rain or thunder showers activity may increase on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, due to the influence of a deep-sea low-pressure, the capital experienced rainfall starting in the afternoon causing huge sufferings of the people as many streets went under water and the traffic movement became chaotic for a long time.
The Meteorological Department advised fishing boats and trawlers located in the North Bay of Bengal and the deep sea to stay close to the shore.
At the same time, they have been instructed not to venture into deep-sea areas for fishing.
Meteorologist Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Malik told the media, “If the deep low-pressure intensifies into a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, we will name it ‘Hamun.’
We have given three warning signals in the sea and one signal in the river port, so that people can safely return to shelter quickly.”
The Indian Meteorological Department also gave a similar forecast.
On Monday, it stated that the deep low-pressure present in the western-central Bay of Bengal could intensify into a cyclone very soon.
In their announcement, they further mentioned that even if it intensifies into a cyclone, it may weaken when it comes closer to the coast, and by the evening of October 25, it could cross over Bangladesh, affecting the coastal areas between Khulna and Chittagong.
Due to adverse weather conditions, tourists visiting Saint Martin’s Island in Cox’s Bazar had been instructed to return by 3pm on Monday.
Additionally, maritime travel on the Teknaf-Saint Martin route will be suspended until further notice from Tuesday.
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Teknaf Adnan Chowdhury, stated that following the cautionary signal number three from the Meteorological Department, all maritime vessels, including ships, speedboats, wooden boats, and any other watercraft, are prohibited from traveling to Saint Martin’s Island from Tuesday onwards.
All tourists currently on the island are directed to leave Saint Martin’s Island immediately. The tourists have been alerted via loudspeakers on the island,” he told the media.
Chairman of Saint Martin Union Parishad Mujibur Rahman stated that the workers have been instructed to convey a message of warning to the tourists traveling to Saint Martin’s Island via boats, as well as staying in hotels, motels, and resorts.
He further mentioned that the island was experiencing heavy rainfall since Sunday night.
The weather was quite rough on Monday, and sea conditions were gradually deteriorating.
