500-year old Dhaker Haat sits in Katiadi ahead of Durga Puja

The 500 year-old Dhak-Dhol Haat has been set up in Katiadi of Kishoreganj ahead of the Autumn Durgo Festival.

In addition to Dhak-Dhol, various kinds of musical instruments can be seen in this market.

Although the name is Dhaker Haat, there is no buying and selling of Dhak or musical instruments here.

The musicians contract with the puja organizers during the puja in exchange for money. How much the contract will be, is determined by the skill of the players.

The leaders of the Hindu community checked the skill of the musicians.

Therefore, the puja organizers from different areas are flocking to the haat to hire musical groups from far and wide in this 500-year-old bazaar.

The locals and the police have played a vigilant role for the security of the haat.

The haat will continue till Saturday. At this nearly five hundred year old Dhak market, a group of musicians have arranged all the well-known Bengali musical instruments including Dhak-Dhol, Kansar, Sanai, Banshi, Kortal, Kanjari.

Puja organizers from different parts of the country hire band party to perform music at the puja mandaps. These bands are getting rent from 10 thousand to 2 lakh taka.

Suktan Chandra Moni Das brought a band of seven musicians from Kapasia in Gazipur. He said, everyone rejoices in the puja.

But we have to leave the family. It has been passed down from generation to generation. I came to this market to put a smile on my family’s face.

Hope to get new clothes for the family by playing the music. I hope to earn good money.
