AL tries keeping opposition parties out from vote: BNP
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday alleged that the government is trying to hold a opposition party free election for gaining an easy win.
“You (AL) are creating obstacles to prevent us from joining the polls. Only one reason behind this, that is to gain an empty field, for getting walkover for easy win in the election,” Mirza Fakhrul while speaking at a discussion meeting at Dhaka Reporters Unity arranged by Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote, in memory of Saifuddin Ahmed Moni, General Secretary of Democratic League (DL).
Saifuddin Moni died on October 13 at Birdem Hospital in Mirpur at the age of 68.
The BNP leader said, “Comments from AL leaders over the next general election demonstrate that they consider Bangladesh to be their paternal property, and one person is the owner of the country.
If anyone say something, they said it is not your business, its our own property.”
Mirza Fakhrul said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader sent out the last message to the opposition on Wednesday that Sheikh Hasina will remain the Prime Minister in the election time government and she will be elected Prime Minister again in the vote.
“If you think that, then there is no need for holding any election… there is no need,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader said also that AL leaders said that the caretaker system has been buried in Azimpur grave yard.
“If you considered that the system will be buried, then why you observed 173 day strikes for the matter? Why you killed so many people burning buses using gunpowder on demanding the caretaker system?” Mirza Fakhrul questioned.
The BNP leader said all of the neighboring countries have established their electoral system as democratic and fair in manner.
“But we have not do that due to only one party that is AL.”
“Now every political party are saying that election will not be credible under the AL government, Communist Party, Leftist front, Jamaat-e-Islami, Chormonai Peer, even Jatiya Party President GM Quader also said that election would not be inclusive and participatory under this government. Then why you cling up in power by force,” he questioned.
NPP President and Samamona Jote Coordinator Advocate Fariduzzaman Farhad presided over the meeting.
Jagpa President Khondokar Lutfar Rahman and former Chairman of DU Political Science Department Professor Nurul Amin Bepary among others were spoke in the event.
