JU VC greets Saima Wazed for getting SEARO Regional Director nomination

Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Prof Nurul Alam has congratulated Saima Wazed for her getting nomination by the government of Bangladesh for the post of Regional Director of World Health Organisation’s South-East Asia Region.

In a press release sent from the university’s public relations office, JU VC quoted, ‘Saima Wazed has the ability to strengthen the connectivity of the member states and address WHO to minimize health-related gaps.’

‘The marginalised and vulnerable groups will not be further disenfranchised if we get her at the position’, the release read.

‘Saima Wazed’s responsibilities will not only address challenges in the health sectors of the 11 member states but also help to work together in implementing equitable healthcare’, the release added.

Saima was the WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Autism in the South-East Asia Region prior to that, she was WHO’s regional champion for autism in South Asia.

On September 4, 2023, the government of Bangladesh nominated Saima Wazed for the post of Regional Director of the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia Region.
