Fisherman, buffalos swallowed up by tigers

A fisherman and 2 buffalos were eaten up by the Royal Bengal tigers in the deep forest within Dhansagar Forest Office under Chandpai Forest Range in the Eastern Division of Sunderbans (in Bagerhat district) during the last three weeks, according to a delayed report received here.

It is stated that due to the illegal intrusion of the people and roaming of the domestic cattle heads in the forest for grassing are a regular feature. Such incidents are going on unabatedly and regularly.

On the last Tuesday (October 10) at noon a buffalo was killed by a Royal Bengal tiger at Murtir Khal (canal) area within Dhansagar Forest Office while it was grassing there.

According to a information, the owner the ill-dated buffalo is one Shamsu Hawladar of village Paschim (West) Rajapur (adjacent to Sundarbans) under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district.

On the day at noon when the buffalo entered into the forest for grassing it was suddenly attacked by a tiger and half of the body was eaten up by the tiger.

Before this on September 27 in the morning a fisherman named Shipar Hawladar (22) hailed from Paschim Rajapur village under the same Upazila when entered into the forest illegally to catch fish from Tulatal canal under the Dhansagar Forest Office he, somehow, fell under the claws of a Royal Bengal tiger and the entire body of the fisherman was swallowed up by the tiger excepting his head.

On October O1 only his head and a blood stained pant were recovered from the forest by his relatives and the villagers.

Only a few days ago of this incident a buffalo belonging to one Sohrab Pahlowan of the same village was killed by a Royal Bengal tiger when it was grassing in the forest. It was disclosed by the villagers.
