13 dengue patients die in 24 hrs

The country on Thursday witnessed more 13 deaths from dengue while 2,327 patients were admitted to different hospitals in the last 24 hours.

The death toll from dengue infection recorded 1,135 between January 1 and October 12 this year, a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The statement said, “During the period, 491 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city while 1,836 were admitted to different hospitals outside the capital city.”

A total of 1,135 deaths recorded this year as the highest in a year since dengue was detected in 2000, were reported from dengue disease while 281 died last year, the statement added.

With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 2,33,531, the data said.

It also added that about 2,23,779 patients were released from different hospitals out of the total patients this year.

A total of 8,617 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

Of them, 2,638 are in Dhaka while 5,979 are outside of the capital city, it said.

The authorities have recorded the highest number of dengue positive cases outside the capital in August this year, meaning the mosquito-borne disease spread across the country.

August witnessed 71,976 dengue positive cases, the highest cases in a single month since dengue outbreak began in 2000 in the country while 342 dengue- related deaths were reported in the current month, the DGHS statement said.
