16 sample varieties of Bri-75, Bina-7 harvested in Madhukhali

The head to head demonstration of rice samples of Bri-75 and Bina-7, and 16 varieties of Boro Aman-2023 season were harvested at Madhukhali, Faridpur on Thursday.

With the funding of International Rice Research Institute (IRI) and the implementation of the non-governmental organization ‘Society Development Committee’ (SDC), short-duration Ufsi varieties of rice, Bri-75, Bina-7, Bina-16, Bina-17, Bina-22, have been cultivated.

Madhukhali Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Alvir Rahman was present at the harvesting ceremony of ripe paddy planted on Nashiruzzaman Liton’s land.

At that time, Society Development Committee’s (SDC) Field Convener Diwakar Mallik, Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Jahangir Alam, prominent farmers Imarat Sheikh, Tipu Zeyaddar, Babu Mir were present.

At the end of threshing of cutting rice, the yield per hectare was 5.23 tons of Bri-75 variety, 4.89 tons of Bina-7 variety and 4.52 tons of Bina-16 variety.

Farmer Md. Nashiruzzaman Liton said that the five varieties of rice planted are all good. However, due to higher yield in Bina-17 and Bina-22 varieties, farmers will prefer the varieties.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Albir Rahman said that the planted short-duration Ufsi varieties of Bri-75, Bina-7, Bina-16, Bina-17, Bina-22 varieties of paddy can be brought home in a short period of time and the yield is good.
