Quader’s statement on pouring uranium threat to kill leaders: BNP
Staff Reporter :
Pouring Russian uranium on the heads of BNP leaders by Awami League General Secretary is nothing but a clear threat to kill them, senior BNP leaders alleged.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders on Tuesday strongly criticised Obaidul Quader’s Monday statement, saying that Quader’s words amounted to a direct threat against the national leaders of BNP.
Earlier on Monday, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at a peace rally organised by Dhaka metropolitan north Awami League at Gabtoli in the city said that if the BNP jumped and danced too much, they would put Russian uranium on the BNP’s head to cool it down.
Quader said if BNP leaders jump too much, they (Quader) will pour uranium on the heads of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Moin Khan, Mirza Abbas and Rizvi.
Indicating Obaidul Quader, BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas said, “Do you know the types of uranium and what it is? Do you have any knowledge about this? Ignorant person’s ignorant words! A crazy man’s crazy words! If uranium is put on the head of anyone, the radioactivity can kill the person.
So you (Quader) are not only guilty of threats? You threatened to kill Mirza Fakhrul, Mirza Abbas and others. And this is what I want to tell the nation clearly that you have threatened to kill the BNP Standing Committee members.”
Mirza Abbas said this at a commemoration meeting organized by Shaheed Jehad Smriti Parishad on the occasion of 33rd martyrdom anniversary of Nazir Uddin Jehad, the hero of the anti-dictatorship student uprising of the 90s held at the Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday.
He said, “I leave the judgment to the court of the nation and we will take action in the court of law in the days to come. We will not spare it.
Have we forgotten that AL leader said BNP Chairperson will be thrown from the Padma bridge? They say again that they will pour uranium on their (BNP leaders) heads.
This is what you (Awami League) are starting! Do politics because you do politics and speak the language of politics.
Learn manners. BNP is a party of gentlemen, while Awami League is a party of uncivilized people and it is not a party of civilized people.”
In another programme, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi strongly criticised Obaidul Quader’s recent statement, saying that his words were a direct threat against BNP leaders.
He likened Quader to a figure from Iraq known as “Chemical Ali,” who was associated with chemical weapons development.
“A ‘Chemical Quader’ has also emerged in Bangladesh, who wants to kill BNP leaders with uranium,” said Rizvi after offering tribute to the mausoleum of Ziaur Rahman in the capital on Tuesday.
Rizvi went on to say that Quader’s threat is indicative of government’s involvement in a range of serious offenses, including forced disappearances, murders, assassinations, and crossfire.
He said “Sheikh Hasina’s administration could inflict untold suffering on countless individuals with the help of this “Chemical Quader.”
Rizvi also voiced his concern over the treatment of Khaleda Zia, saying that someone who had played a pivotal role in restoring democracy should not be denied basic rights, including medical treatment and the right to life.
Rizvi said, ‘The leader who repeatedly restored democracy in the country has no right to medical treatment, no right to live. People from all over the country raised their voice to save the national leader Khaleda Zia.
However, that sound does not reach the ears of cruel Sheikh Hasina.”
Earlier on Monday, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said at a peace rally organised by Dhaka metropolitan north Awami League at Gabtoli in the city that if the BNP jumped and danced too much, they would put Russian uranium on the BNP’s head and cool it down.
‘BNP said it will paralyse Dhaka city in October.
The people of Dhaka will paralyse them (BNP) instead. They said to shut the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
If they jump and dance too much, we’ll put Russian uranium on their heads and cool it down,’ he said.
Quader was speaking at a peace rally organised by Dhaka metropolitan north Awami League at Gabtoli in the capital on Monday afternoon.
He warned BNP that it would not be good to jump too much.
