Old woman killed in Mongla road mishap

An old woman passerby named Johra Begum (65) was killed under the wheels of a speeding truck on Abdul Hay Road near Ferry Ghat within Mongla Port town in Bagerhat district on Monday afternoon at about 3 pm.

Some eye-witnesses said that the deceased Johra Begum, daughter of one late Ahmed Shaikh of Gauramva Union under Rampal Upazila in the same district living in a residence belonging to one of her relatives at Abdul Hye Road when she was crossing the Road quickly she was fatally injured as she was run over by a speeding truck and she was killed on the spot.

On information police of Mongla PS rushed to the spot and seized the killer truck. But its driver managed to escape.

Mohammad Shasuddin, Officer-in-charge of Mongla PS confirmed the matter and told, the ill-fated deceased old woman was a Beggar in profession. She hailed from Gauramva area under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district. In this connection a case was registered with the PS.
