Khaleda needs court’s permission for treatment abroad: Kamal
Staff Reporter :
Ailing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s better treatment abroad are linked with a lot of legal complications and a court approval may be required in this regard.
So, permission will have to come from the court, but not from the home ministry for taking BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to abroad for treatment.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said this while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday.
The minister’s comments came a day after Law Minister Anisul Huq said that an application must be submitted to the Home Ministry to allow BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to go abroad for better treatment.
The Home Minister, however, said that the Law Minister knows well about the matter. In that case, the home ministry cannot do anything beyond the law, he added.
“Khaldea Zia’s matter is the court’s jurisdiction as it is not a matter of the permission from the home ministry. So, the home ministry has nothing to do without the court’s order,” Asaduzzaman Khan said.
He also said that despite being a convicted person the government allowed Khaleda Zia to receive treatment from best doctors at home after suspending her conviction and it is because of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Home Minister said that BNP normally seeks permission from the Home Ministry which is later forwarded to the Law Ministry for legal explanation.
“If the Law Ministry thinks it is a matter of the court’s jurisdiction, they will send it to the court. I think there is a legal complexity and a permission from court might be needed,” Asaduzzaman Khan added.
