Police to buy 52,000 sound grenades ahead of election

The police headquarters is going to purchase 52,000 sound grenades, including chemical multi-impact tear shells and flash-bang grenades ahead of the election, Bangladesh Police media wing confirmed it on Saturday.

These items will be procured in three packages, as recently announced in the tender notice by the police headquarters. In the first package, 30,000 sound grenades will be purchased at an estimated cost of approximately 20 lakh Taka.

In the second package, 15,000 multi-impact tear gas grenades will be purchased at the same cost.

And in the third package, 7,000 flash-bang grenades will be procured at an estimated cost of around 10 lakh Taka.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) (Public Relations) Enamul Haque Sagar said, “The procurement is part of our regular procurement process, and these items have been purchased before.”

Security analysts believe that these measures are being taken to enhance security in anticipation of any adverse situations in the upcoming elections.

The supplier company will provide the defense equipment to the Bangladesh Police within 120 days of opening the letter of credit.

The general election is scheduled to be held in early next year.

The Election Commission is taking preparations for this purpose.

A budget is spent for the law enforcers to conduct elections apart from other expenditures.

The law enforcers play a significant role in holding a peaceful election.
