NID server put down for maintenance
Staff Reporter :
The National Identity Card (NID) server of the Election Commission (EC) has been down since morning due to maintenance purposes.
“All NID-related services will be suspended until 2pm on Wednesday due to ongoing server maintenance,” EC Information System Management Division (NID) Assistant Programmer Aminul Islam told media.
The EC has apologized for the temporary inconvenience.
On August 14, the NID server was closed for about 38 hours from 12am. Sources said the move was taken to prevent cyber attacks in the wake of the threat.
Meanwhile, a hacker group has claimed that cyber attacks have started in Bangladesh since 9:30am on Tuesday as previously announced.
This claim was made in various social media groups including Telegram, claiming themselves as Indian hackers.
The group says two private hospitals and the Navy’s website have already been attacked.
In recent months, the hacker group repeatedly threatened cyber attacks in Bangladesh.
On September 12, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology held a meeting to address the issue and advised all institutions to stay alert.
The attacks carried out so far were D-DOS attacks.
In this process, websites are made unresponsive by increasing traffic.
Experts said cyber attacks on government and private organizations are increasing.
From August 15-20, Indian hacker groups attacked about 36 websites and networks.
