Khaleda’s condition not good enough to be released from hospital: doctor
Staff Reporter :
Health condition of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is not well, said physicians.
Begum Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment in Evercare Hospital in the capital for the last 26 days but her condition has not improved enough to be discharged from there, her personal physician Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said on Monday.
“Medical treatment of Madam (Khaleda Zia) has provided under close observation of medical board members.
They are visiting her two or three times a day, conducting necessary tests and taking necessary measures accordingly.
But her health conditions has not improved yet,” Dr. Zahid said.
He said that, Khaleda’s medical board members were treating her in consultation with local and foreign doctors.
“The doctors felt that it was necessary to keep Khaleda Zia under more close observation. That’s why she has to stay in the hospital for a few more days,” he said.
Replying to a query about when the BNP chief may get released from hospital, he said Khaleda’s physical condition has not yet improved enough to take her home from the hospital.
“The medical board still can’t say specifically how many more days she needs to stay in the hospital,” he said.
Meanwhile, a member of her medical board, wishing anonymity, said that the improvement in physical condition of Khaleda Zia was very slow.
“She has been suffering from some very critical diseases and no hospital in Bangladesh has the capacity to give her the exact medical treatment that she needs now,” the medical board member said.
The doctor said that, it was essential to send Khaleda to any sophisticated hospital abroad with liver transplant facilities to save her life.
“We are trying our best to ensure her condition doesn’t deteriorate as a complete cure is not possible here,” he said.
Begum Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital for health checkups on August 9 while she fell sick and she has been receiving treatment at the hospital since then under a medical board headed by cardiologist Professor Shahabuddin Talukder.
Khaleda Zia, a 79-year-old former prime minister, has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart, and eye problems, doctors said.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday night visited Khaleda Zia in the hospital.
After visiting the party chief, Mirza Fakhrul said, Khaleda Zia needed to take proper medical treatment abroad as there are no necessary medical facilities to render her proper treatment.
“But the government has not allowed her to send abroad for medical treatment,” he said.
