Kazi Shahid passes away

Gemcon Group chairman Kazi Shahid Ahmed died on Monday at a hospital in the capital. He was 83.
He breathed his last at a city hospital at about 7:15pm, his elder son Kazi Anis Ahmed told reporters.
Kazi Shahid, a renowned entrepreneur and sports organiser, was the editor and publisher of now defunct newspaper ‘Ajker Kagoj’.
He was born in Jashore in the then British India in 1940. After completing engineering degree, he joined Bangladesh Army.
He was one of the founding platoon commanders of Bangladesh Military Academy.
Kazi Shahid started his business career in 1979.
He was the founder of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Kazi Shahid Foundation.
Kazi Shahid Ahmed’s first book was published in 1995.
‘Amar Lekha’, ‘Ghore Agun Legeche’, ‘Bhairab’, ‘Pasha’, ‘Datey Kata Pencil’ and ‘Opekkha’ are his renowned books and novels.
His autobiography named ‘Jiboner Shilalipi’ was published in 2014.
His first novel ‘Bhairab’ has been translated into English.
