Dried shark fish fries seized from Patharghata

The Coast Guard has seized 20,000 kg (500 maunds) of dried shark fish fries from wholesale depot (Chatal) at Patharghata upazila of Bargunaon Sunday.

The market value of which is around five crore taka.

Coast Guard South Zone media officer Lt. Shafiul Kinjal said based on secret information, Patharghata Station Commander of Coast Guard led by M Masudur Rahman Mosud on Sunday noon operated a drive near Patharghata canal of Ward No. 9 under Patharghata municipality of Barguna district.

During the drive, 500 maunds of shark fish fries were seized from a fish drying (Shutki)and processing village.

At that time, the law enforcers failed to arrest anyone or real owner of the chatalas they managed to flee from the area.

Mohibur Rahman, Patharghata forest division beat official said after seizing the shark fries , those were buried under the ground in the presence of the officials.

In this regard, Barguna Forest Officer Matiur Rahman said, such operations are ongoing in different markets from the area.

Asim Mallik, Wildlife Inspectorof Forest, Wildlife Crime Suppression Unitat Agargaonof Dhaka, said netting, transportation, import-export, possession and purchase and sale all types of shark and Shapla-Pata fish have been declared prohibited by the Forest Department Act.

Action will be taken under the Wildlife (Preservation and Security) Act against those who are openly selling banned fishes and creatures in violation of the law, the forest official added.
