Flood situation in Sirajganj, Tangail and Jamalpur districts is likely to worsen further though river waters in the upstream continue receding .
According to Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), the river water of Jamuna and Padma is in a rising trend, which will continue next 24 hours.
In Sirajganj and Tangail, the water of Jamuna river is rising and flowing only 16 cm below the danger mark, which may cross the danger level within 24-48 hours.
Mehadi Hasan, Assistant Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board, also in-charge of FFWC said, the Brahmaputra and the Ganges rivers are in a steady state and both the rivers may remain steady in next 24 hours.
He also said that all the major rivers in the North-eastern region of the country are in a falling trend which may continue in the next 24 hours. In next 24 hours, the
Jamuna river at Porabari point may flow close to its danger level, he added.
Mehadi Hasan said that the Teesta, Dharla and Dudkumar rivers in the Northern region of the country are in a falling trend. The rivers may flow at their normal state in the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorology Department (IMD) on Wednesday said in its bulletin that there are chances of widespread heavy rainfalls likely over Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, which will continue till August 20.
Sirajganj Water Development Board (WDB)sources said that though water is increasing but there is no risk of heavy flooding this time.
However, the water level of other rivers in Sirajganj district is also increasing.
As a result, Charlands and low-lying croplands have started getting flooded and flood water started entering low-lying houses in Sirajganj and Tangail districts.
Sirajganj WDB sub-divisional engineer Ranjit Kumar Sarkar said on Wednesday that they recorded water level 12.74 meters at Sirajganj Hard Point of the Jamuna.
He also said that the water of Jamuna river will rise for another two-three days and it may also cross the danger mark.
