US Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration Anne C Richard begins her four-day visit to Bangladesh today.During her stay here, Richard will meet government officials, including officials at the Foreign Ministry, Home Ministry, Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, NGOs and international NGOs, UNHCR, IOM regional representatives and the media.She will also take part in a lecture on ‘US policy on Refugee, Migration and Population Dynamics’ to be organised by Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in the city on Wednesday.Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Huq, senior civil and military officials, former ambassadors, members of the academia, scholars, and policymakers will also take part in the programme.She will also travel to Cox’s Bazar to meet district and local administration officials, undocumented and registered Rohingya refugees and officials of the organisations providing humanitarian assistance in the area.Assistant Secretary Richard was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration in 2012.
