3 injured at DU in tree falling

A colossal size of Krisnochura tree, English name Royal Poinciana Flowers, fell on a jeep in front of the central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday, leaving four people injured.

At least three people were injured as a tree fell on a moving car and rickshaw near Central Shaheed Minar on the area of Dhaka University (DU).

The incident happened on Tuesday around 4 pm. The injured have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Eyewitnesses said that a tree suddenly fell on the car while traveling on the road. At that time, a rickshaw rider was seriously injured after being hit by the tree. Apart from this, the driver of that rickshaw was also injured. The driver of a private car was also injured.

“The tree suddenly collapsed and some people were injured and were taken them to the DMCH before the arrival of the fire service. One of them is in a critical condition,” Johirul Islam, a eyewitness said.

Noor Mohammad, Officer in Charge of Shahabag Police Station said, “Two people were injured in this accident and the injured have been taken to the hospital.”
