2 electrocuted

Two persons including the house owner met their tragic end when they were electrocuted in the village Baraguni within Barabaria Union under Chitlmari Upazila in Bagerhat district at the time of constructing a kitchen on Saturday morning at about 11 pm, according to report received here. The ill-fated persons are the house owner Asad Shaikh (65) and carpenter Nasim Billah (40 ), son of one Nikai Molla of village Sonapra under the adjacent Mollahat Upazila.
It is learnt from the locals that on the day while a wooden kitchen was constructing in the residence of late Asad Shaikh, some how, they touched an electric bulb and consequently, they were electrocuted. Both of them were rushed to Mollahat Upazila Health Complex where they expired at noon.

2 held along with coils, other materials

Two thieves were arrested along with coils and other valuable materials of Bangladesh-India Friendship Thermo Power Plant at Rampal under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district in the early hours (at 3 am) of Friday by the police of Rampal PS, according to a report received here. The arrested thieves are Jony Shaikh (32), son of one Abdul Aziz Shaikh of village Bara Durgapur under Rampal Upazila and Monirul Shaikh (42), son of one Abdul Aziz of the same village. They were already sent to the court at Bagerhat district headquarters.
It is reported that acting on secret information a police squad led by SI Zahidur Rahman of Rampal PS conducted a raid at Durgapur Char at the night of Thursday (at about 3-30 am) and arrested the thieves just from the in front of a tin shed house belonging to one Kalam Sadar of the area along with 205 kgs coils, iron rods and some other valuable materials of the Power Plant). The arrested thieves were connected with stealing of copper coils and other valuables of the Power Plant for long. A case was already lodged with the PS against them. In this connection S M Ashraful Alam, Officer-in-charge of Rampal PS told, a list of thieves and their god-fathers living around the Power Plant and nobody (involved in stealing with materials of the Power Plant) can be escaped.
It may be mentioned here that more than 59 such raids were conducted during the period from the month of May, 2022 to July 19, 2023 and various stolen valuable materials of the Power Plant worth Tk.85 lakh were recovered and some 51 smugglers were arrested so far.

3 cattle lifters arrested
Some 3 cattle lifters were caught red-handed by the locals while they (cattle lifters) fleeing away by a 3 wheelers known as Mahindra after lifting a female calf in it in the village Myadha Bahirdia under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday at noon (at 12-30 pm), according to a report received here. Then the cattle lifters were handed over to police after giving them a sound rubbing.
It is learnt from the police and the locals that on the day at noon the cattle lifters appeared at a field of the village by the 3wheelers, untied a female calf belonging to one Omar Faruq of the village the rope, lifted it into their 3 wheelers and fled away. But some ones saw the matter and cried out loudly. On hearing the crying a number of passersby and the locals rushed to the spot, barricaded the road and caught them (thieves) along with their vehicles and the calf. The lifters are Nurul Islann, son of one Shamsul Shaikh of village Deana under Daulatpur Upazila in Khulna district, Al-Amin, son of one Islam Shikh of village Hazra under the same Upazila and Monirul Moni, son of one Halim Shaikh of Labanchara area in Khulna City Corporation. Being informed of the matter a police squad led by SI Kartik Chandra Pal of Fakirhat Model PS and Mahfujur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Bahirdia Police outpost rushed to the spot and took the thieves to Fakirhat PS. It may be mentioned here that during the last 2 weeks a number cows and goats were stolen from the localities. As a result, local people became alert. Consequently, the locals were able to catch the cattle lifters. After giving them the first-aid treatments they (cattle lifters) are now under police custody. Muhammad Alimuzzaman, Officer-in-charge of Fakirhat Model PS admitted the fact and told, it is guessed that the arrested cattle lifters are professional thieves. In this connection a case was lodgedS with the PS against them and after completion the legal procedures they will be sent to the court.
