No fair elections possible under AL govt: GM Quader

Staff Reporter :
A fair and impartial election is not possible under the Awami League (AL)-led government and it has been clearly proved during the recently held by-election to Dhaka-17 constituency.
“The people of the country and the world have observed what kind of election will take place if the election is held under the AL government,” Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman GM Quader said this while speaking at a function at JaPa Chairman’s Banani office on Sunday.

GM Quader alleged that only one person voted 10 times in the Dhaka-17 constituency by-election. “There were no people’s involvements in Dhaka-17 by-poll. The government says 11 per cent of the votes have been cast, while privately our news is that only 5-6 per cent people cast their votes. The rest is forcibly balloting (sealed),” the JaPa Chairman said.
He also said that, the people did not trust this vote as there were no people’s involvements.

“The way candidates are beaten and agents driven out from the polling centres was an example to the world,” GM Quader said.
Referring to the Dhaka-17 by-poll, the JaPa Chairman urged the world community to judge the by-poll and what will happen if elections are held under the AL-led government.
“After holding Dhaka-17 by-poll, is there a chance for the government party to say, we (government) can give free and fair elections according to the constitution?” he questioned.
