Ideal College student killed as he refused to give phone to muggers

Adnan Sayeed Rakib (18), a student of the capital’s Ideal School and College, refused to hand over his mobile phone when the robbers injured him with a switch gear knife. He later succumbed on his way to hospital.
A case was lodge by Rakib’s family with Dhanmondi Police Station on Monday night in connection with the murder. Later, the three accused muggers were arrested from city’s Rayerbagh Slum.
Three accused have been identified as Sumon Bhuiyan,25, alias Bara Sumon, Md. Iqball,16 and Kallu Sumon,14.
A switchgear knife and a battery-operated autorickshaw were also seized from their possession during their arrest.
DMP’s additional police commissioner (Detective) Mohammad Harun ar Rashid stated it to the media at the DMP’s Media Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Harun ar Rashid said victim student Rakib and his friend Raiyan went to Rabindra Sarovar at Dhanmondi at about 9:30pm on Sunday. Muggers waylaid them when they were returning home on the footpath in front of nursery on the eastern side of Sheikh Jamal Ground.
The muggers took away the mobile phone of Raiyan first after beating him up. As Raiyan escaped running away from there, the accused sought the mobile phone of Rakib.
As Rakib declined to give his mobile phone, the muggers first stabbed beneath his shoulder and left leg with a switch-gear knife. They then took away his mobile phone and moneybag.
