Bangladesh for quick finalisation of BIMSTEC FTA

Bangladesh on Monday called for the early conclusion of the BIMSTEC free trade agreement.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen raised the issue during the ‘BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat’, a spokesperson of the foreign ministry said on Tuesday.
The meet was held in Bangkok, he said adding that it was the first ever BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat.
For post-pandemic economic recovery, Dr Momen also stressed the introduction of a cross-border digital payment system, sharing best practises in nursing and tourism, and recognition of university degrees, etc.
He also highlighted the importance of raising a common voice from BIMSTEC countries in combating the adverse impact of climate change in global climate change negotiations.
The retreat was attended by all the foreign ministers of BIMSTEC member states and the secretary general of BIMSTEC.
