Staff Reporter  :
The government has confirmed hospitalisations of 1,246 dengue patients in a day, the highest reported so far this year, taking the tally to 16,143.
With five fatalities in the 24 hours to 8 am on Wednesday, the death toll rose to 88, including 41 in the first 12 days of July, according to latest data published by the Directorate General of Health Services. In June, the hospitals reported 5,956 cases and 34 deaths, reports bdnews24.com

On Wednesday morning, the hospitals were treating 3,791 dengue patients, including 2,530 in Dhaka, the DGHS said.
The majority of the new cases, 709, were also reported in Dhaka, where hospitals were struggling with an influx of dengue patients.
In 2020, 1,405 people contracted the disease at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, and no one died.

The number of reported hospitalisations was 28,429 in 2021, with 105 deaths. In 2022, there were 62,382 dengue hospitalisations nationwide, with 181 deaths. Dhaka alone saw 39,220 patients admitted to hospitals.
Meanwhile, for the next 30 days, the health directorate has set the testing fee for dengue at Tk50, reducing it from Tk100, for government hospitals. The new rate was announced in a DGHS handbill issued on Wednesday (12 July).

On the other hand, Dhaka North City Corporation is taken a decision to turn its Covid-19 dedicated hospital to dengue dedicated hospital to curb the dengue infections.
DGHS’s Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Deputy Director confirmed the matter saying that after appointing requiring manpower and buying equipment the DNCC’s Covid-19 dedicated hospital will turn dengue dedicated hospital. Earlier, government hospitals used to charge a Tk100 fee for NS-1 antigen tests for dengue patients and in private hospitals it was Tk300.
The Directorate General of Health Services has also advised countrymen to be careful instead of being panicked over dengue fever. In case of fever, people were asked to take a dengue test following the doctor’s advice. Lately, the traditional symptoms of dengue infection have changed making it more unpredictable and riskier to deal with, amid an alarming rise in daily cases and deaths.
It has been advised to seek immediate medical attention in the case of symptoms like severe body aches, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and body joint pain, nausea, swelling of the nasal glands, rash or red spots on the body and thin stools.
