HC rules over redrawing boundaries of Noakhali-1 Constituency

Staff Reporter  :
The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule upon the respondents to explain as to why gazette notification that demarcated the Noakhali-1 Constituency by excluding ‘Bazra Union’ of the Sunaimuri upazila from the constituency, and including it within the area of Noakhali-2 Constituency should not be declared illegal.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other respondents have been asked to comply with the rule within four weeks.
The High Court Bench of Justice K M Kamrul

Kader and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan, also a former MP of the Noakhali-1 Constituency, and others.
Election Commission in June this year by a gazette notification had redrawn the boundaries of 10 parliamentary seats including the Noakhali-1 ahead of the 12th general election at the end of the year or early next year.
