Police review petition seeking sedition charges against Nurul Haque

Gono Odhikar Parishad member secretary and former Ducsu VP Nurul Haque Nur has been charged with a sedition case with Shahbag Police station in the capital Dhaka.
Al-Mamun, general secretary of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Mancha, a pro-Awami League platform, filed the complaint with the police station on Friday afternoon.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbag Police Station Nur Mohammad told the media that they were reviewing the application.
The petition alleged that the member secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad Nurul Haque, went abroad and met with Mendi N Safadi, an agent of Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.
Nurul Haque is involved in an anti-state conspiracy to overthrow the elected government of
Bangladesh.
The application mentioned that Nurul Haque is trying to create hatred and chaos in the state by inciting the leaders and workers of Gono Odhikar Parishad. Nurul Haque has committed the crime of treason by engaging in a conspiracy to overthrow the legitimate government.
A case must be filed against him under Sections 124(a), 120(th) and 506 of the Penal Code. However, the permission of the Ministry of Home Affairs is required to file a sedition case.
In this regard, OC Nur Mohammad of Shahbag Police Station told the media on Saturday afternoon, “I have received an application for sedition case against Nurul Haque. The matter is being discussed. What steps will be taken, I can inform later.
Besides, two private television channels of the country recently reported that Nur maintained connection with Chattogram Hill Tracts-based anti-state armed group Kuki-Chin National Front.
A similar complaint was lodged against Nur with Sylhet Kotwali police station earlier in January this year.
