Next election must be held under Caretaker govt: BNP

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the next general election must be held under a caretaker government.
“The huge rush of the people to the streets could not be stopped by any means. The next polls must be conducted under a neutral, non- party caretaker government,” the BNP Secretary General said this through a statement on Monday.
Mentioning that ruling Awami League (AL) men and its controlled police are lying in wait to detain the leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated bodies across the country, Mirza Fakhrul said that there is no security of live for leaders and activists of the party whether in villages or towns. The BNP senior leader said misrule has reached extreme levels at present.
He said, “The people of the country are constantly worried about the safety of their lives and properties under the grip of a reckless dictatorship.”
“People are gradually losing their rights to survive only by eating ‘dal-bhat’ (lentil and rice). Hunger and starvation are now the daily companions of a large number of people. Currently, middle and low income group of people have their backs against the wall due to the staggering increase in the prices of essential commodities.”
Law and order situation has collapsed due to the dominance of terrorists and scoundrels across the country because of the patronizing of the ruling party, he added. People lives are in danger in every step. Common people are constantly losing their lives in accidents.
Road mishap deaths are increasing every day.
BNP leaders and activists are being arrested and sent to jail on false cases across the country at the behest of the ruling party for protesting against these misrule and violent incidents, he claimed. Totally false charges have been brought against 21 leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal in Jashore, including the district BNP’s Joint-Convener Delwar Hossain Khokon, he said.
Mirza Fakhrul demanded the withdrawal of false cases and release of BNP leaders and activists in Dhaka and Jashore districts without delay.
