Against such a situation, he placed his party’s five-point proposal : A national government should be formed before the completion of the term of the current parliament; Immediately after the formation of the national government, the current parliament should be dissolved; Alongside dissolving the parliament, the current Prime Minister should transfer power to national government; Within the next three months after the formation of the national government, a national election should be held; No member of the current cabinet should be allowed to be part of the upcoming national government, and those who are part of the national government cannot run as candidates in the national election.
The proposals were placed during press conference held in the IAB party office in the Purana Paltan in the capital on Sunday.
Party’s Joint Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman conducted the press conference and among others, party’s Secretary-General Hafiz Maulana Yunus Ahmed, Presidium Member Principal Maulana Syed Mosaddek Billah Al-Madani, Allama Nurul Huda Foyezi, Professor Ashraf Ali Akon, Professor Mahbubur Rahman, Joint Secretary General Engineer Ashraful Alam, and Maulana Imtiaz Alam were present.
IAB Amir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim also said that they would not participate in the election under the partisan government and do everything necessary resist any such election.
Highlighting how the government-backed ‘goons’ had ‘ruthlessly and savagely’ attacked their party candidate Senior Nayeb-e-Amir Mufti Syed Mohammad Foyzul Karim in the Barishal City Corporation on June 12, he condemned such attack and demanded exemplary punishment of the perpetrators.
“The violation of people’s voting rights and the use of state and party-sponsored terrorism in the country are not something new. Despite repeated complaints to the Election Commission-appointed returning officers and local administration, Mufti Fazlul Karim has not received a secure environment for fair elections,” Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said.
In response to journalists’ questions, he said, “The Chief Election Commissioner’s disrespectful and mocking remarks about Mufti Fazlul Karim whether our candidate has died. It astonishes us how a person can make such a remark about a respected individual.”
“Such a person cannot hold the responsibility of the chair of the Chief Election Commissioner. We demand immediate resignation of the CEC Habbibul Awal. We also urge the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation behind such uncivilized attack on our candidate,” he mentioned.
