‘Physical, mental sickness increased’

Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday said that physical and mental sicknesses have been increased among the people as they have changed their lifestyle.

“The people have changed their lifestyle extensively. They are now become more busy and did not give time to the families as a result they become sick frequently,” the health minister said it in a function in a hotel in the capital.

The health minister said that the people are now avoiding sports. Their food habits also have been changed. As a result, the obesity are increased even among the children beside the old aged people.

He stressed on preventive measures in this regards.

“Air pollution, smokes of brick kilns, and adulterated foods are also responsible for the increasing sickness,” he said.

Zahid Maleque said that 70 pc of the people among those who died every year are from non communicable diseases (NCD). About 20pec of those are hypertension, he said.

The minister said that as part of taking preventive measures, NCD corners have been opened in 300 upazila hospitals, the more are on the pipelines, he added.
