Head Coach of Bangladesh Football team Javier Cabrera announced on Friday the 23-member Bangladesh Football squad for the upcoming South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) SAFF Championship. Cabrera disclosed the names of the squad at a press conference at the conference room of Bangladesh Football Federation House. Captain of Bangladesh team Jamal Bhuyan was with him.
Midfielder Shekh Morsalin of Bashundhara Kings and Forward of Fortis Football Club Rafiqul Islam have been included in the 23-member squad. Eleta Kingsley, Mashuk Mia, Shahriar Emon, Sazzad Hossain, Tutul Hossain, Mehedi Hasan Srabon and Rimon Hossain have been dropped from the squad.
Bangladesh Football squad will leave the city for Cambodia today.
Bangladesh will play a warm-up match against Tiffy Army Football Club on June 12 there. Bangladesh will take on Cambodia in the lone FIFA friendly match on June 15. After playing the FIFA friendly match, Bangladesh squad will leave for Bengaluru of India to take part in the SAFF Championship.
Bangladesh, Lebanon, Maldives and Bhutan have been placed in Group-B, while hosts India, Kuwait, Nepal, Pakistan have been billed in Group-A.
The SAFF Championship, the most prestigious football competition of South Asian Region will be held at Bengaluru in India from June 21 to July 4.
Bangladesh will take on Lebanon on June 22 at 4.00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time). Bangladesh will face Maldives on June 25 at 4.00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time). Bangladesh will meet Bhutan on June 28 at 8.00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time).
Kuwait will take on Nepal in the inaugural match on June 21. India will play their all Group-A matches at 8.00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time).
The matches of the group phases will come to an end on June 28.
The top two teams from each group will get tickets of the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will face each other in the final.
The two semi-finals will be held on July 1. The final will be held on July 4. The time of the semi-finals and the final have not yet finalized.
