Champions Bashundhara Kings came from behind and earned a hard-fought 2-1 win against Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in their match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka on Friday.
Bashundhara Kings led the points table grabbing 49 points from 18 matches, while Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club took the fourth position bagging 23 points from 13 matches. Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club emerged the champions in this years Federation Cup Football by beating their arch rivals Abahani Limited by 4-2 goals in a nail-biting final match recently.
Dhaka Abahani Limited became runners-up in the BPL Football defeating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited by three goals to nil in the day’s other match at Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla. Dhaka Abahani Limited remaining two matches.
Dhaka Abahani Limited gained 37 points from 18 matches, while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited took the sixth position earning 21 points from 17 matches.
Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited played without their key player Souleyman Diabate and thus, they paid heavily. Diabate could not take part in the match as he had a red card.
Mohammedan’s Nigerian recruit Emmanuel Sunday of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited put his team ahead by a scoring a goal in the early second minute of the play.
Bashundhara’s Brazilian Miguel Figueira leveled the margin in the 10th minute of the game.
Rakib of Bashundhara Kings scored the match-winning goal in the 40th minute of the clash.
In Cumilla, Dhaka Abahani’s Nigerian born Bangladeshi Eleta Kingsley put his team ahead by a header in the 23rd minute of the first half.
Dhaka Abahani’s Nigerian recruit Emeka Ogbugh made it 2-0 in the extra time of the first half.
Abahani’s Costa Rican recruit Daniel Colindres sealed the fate of the match in the 48th minute of the game.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra made a 1-1 draw with minnows Azampur Football Club of Uttara in the day’s another match at Rafique Uddiun Bhuiyan Stadium.
Azampur’s Colombian forward Richard scored one goal for his team, while Sheikh Russel’s Ivory Coast recruit Charles Didier netted one goal for his outfit.
Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra took the fifth position collecting 23 points from 17 matches, while relegated Azampur earned five points from as many outings.
