Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited clinched the title of the Federation Cup Football after beating their arch rivals Dhaka Abahani Limited by 4-2 goals in the tie-breaker of the hard-fought final at Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Tuesday. Mohammedan’s Malian recruit Souleymane Diabate played the key role for their victory. He scored four goals with a hat-trick. After a long 14 years, the popular black-and-white outfit won the Federation Cup trophy. In the year of 2009, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club annexed the title of Federation Cup beating the popular sky-blue outfit.
The stipulated ninety-minute match ended in a 3-3 draw. Thus, the match took place in the extra thirty-minute game. The thirty-minute match ended in a 1-1 draw. The fate of the match was decided into penalty shoot-out and Mohammedan Sporting Club got success and triumph the title of the Federation Cup Football. There was no footballer in Bangladesh who scored four goals in a final of Federation Cup Football. After 43 years, Diabate made the record for the popular Motijheel based outfit.
Abahani led the first half 2-0.
Foysal Ahmed Fahim of Dhaka Abahani Limited put his team ahead using a pass of his Nigerian teammate Emeka Ogbugh in the 16th minute of the match.
Abahani’s Costa Rican recruit Daniel Colindres made it 2-0 by an angular shot in the 44th minute of the game.
After the lemon-break, Souleyman Diabate reduced the margin in the 56th minute of the game.
Diabate equalized the margin in the 60th minute of the clash.
Emeka increased the tally into 3-2 in the 66th minute of the game.
Diabate fulfilled his hat-trick in the 83rd minute of the match.
Diabate was roughly charged by Abahani custodian Sohel in the 25th minute of the match. Thus, referee awarded a penalty kick for the Motijheel based outfit. Diabate scored his fourth goal by a spectacular shot.
Rahmat Mia of Abahani Limited equalized the margin just before the ending of 30-minute match.
In the penalty shoot-out, Mohammedan’s substitute Bipu saved two spot-kick. Thus, Mohammedan won in the tie-breaker and also the trophy of Federation Cup Football.
