Shaheen Samad to get Nazrul Award from Bangla Academy

Noted singer Shaheen Samad
is set to receive the prestigious Nazrul Award 2023 from the esteemed Bangla Academy in
recognition of her exceptional
contributions to Nazrul Geeti.
The award is a testament to her extensive body of work and her efforts to promote and popularise the art of Nazrul Sangeet,
said a press release.
The Bangla Academy has
organised the Nazrul Award 2023 ceremony and cultural programme, scheduled to take place next Wednesday as part of the
celebrations marking the 124th birth anniversary of National
Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
During the ceremony, Shaheen Samad will be presented with a cheque, certificate, and memento, honoring her remarkable contributions to the field. It is worth
mentioning that Samad was previously bestowed with the prestigious Ekushey Padak in 2016 by the Bangladesh Government for her
outstanding contributions to Nazrul Sangeet. While sharing her joy and gratitude upon receiving the award, Shaheen Samad said, “Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to receive numerous accolades, each of which brings me
happiness and excitement. However, this particular award holds a special place in my heart as it is the Nazrul Award. It will serve as a tremendous source of inspiration for me to further dedicate myself
to the practice of Nazrul Sangeet.”
Shaheen Samad is widely recognised as one of the torchbearers of Nazrul Sangeet in Bangladesh. Her expertise and dedication to preserving and promoting the works of Kazi Nazrul Islam have earned her
international acclaim. Notably, Shaheen Samad was an esteemed artiste of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, which played a pivotal role in inspiring millions during
the Liberation War of 1971.
