Ginger, green chilli prices see another hike

Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, ginger prices reached Tk380 a kg and green chillies Tk220 per kilogram on Tuesday, showing a further Tk20-40 hike in the last few days.
Fish prices also witnessed further rise, adding to the more pressure on prices of daily commodities.

Chinese ginger was selling for Tk380 a kg. Indian and Burmese varieties were sold at Tk280-340 a kg, according to market sources.
The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) recorded an 8% hike in ginger price in a week and a 45% hike in a month.
The current price of ginger is 180% higher than that of a year ago, it noted.

Local ginger production was below 80,000 tonnes against a yearly demand for 500,000 tonnes.
Green chilli was sold between Tk180-220 a kg in different areas of Dhaka on the day, marking Tk20-30 a kg hike in a week.
The price of chilli was Tk80-100 a kg even during Eid-ul-Fitr last month.
