Tk 17 lakh looted in guise of DB officials, 4 along with BCL leader held

Police arrested four persons including the Narayanganj District Chhatra League vice-president Tapu Chandra Ghosh on charges of robbing Tk 17 lakh of an expatriate identifying themselves as DB police.

Inspector Rezaul Karim, the investigation officer (IO) of the case, confirmed this matter on Tuesday.
He said, after the investigation over the accused, BCL leader Tapu and his three accomplices were arrested by raiding various places including Mograpara area of Sonargaon on Saturday night.

After the arrest, the accused also gave a confessional statement in the court. According to the statement of the case, on April 4, a Saudi expatriate named Ujjal Hossain was robbed at Haji Saheber area of Bandar (port) Union of Bandar Upazila. The accused held victim hostage at gunpoint posing as the DB police and snatched Tk 17 lakh and a mobile phone from him. Two days later, the Saudi expatriate, the victim, filed a case against the unknown accused with the Bandar police station.
Tapu Chandra Ghosh is the son of one Sadhan Chandra Ghosh of Arjundi village in Mograpara union of Sonargaon upazila. Tapu has a fast food shop called ‘London Juice Bar & Cafe’ in Mograpara beside the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

The other three accused have been identified as Rohan (21), son of one Zakir Hossain of Chhota Arjundi village of Sonargaon upazila, Krishnachandra Rajbanshi (32), son of one Shubhankar Chandra Rajbanshi of Baranagar area of the same upazila, Ershad (24), son of one Chan Sheikh Mia of Khaja Ashrampara area of Sherpur, Bogura district.

In this issue, when contacted on the mobile phone of Azizur Rahman Aziz, President of the District Chhatra League, he said, “My father is ill.”
I am in the hospital with him. I can’t speak now.

However, district Chhatra League General Secretary Ashraful Ismail Rafel told the media, “We do not exempt anyone if someone in our organization commits a crime. Many have been expelled before. In this case too, Tapu Chandra Ghosh will be expelled if he is found guilty. We will report the matter to the central committee, he added.
