AL likely to expel Jahangir for life

Awami League is likely to expel Gazipur City Corporation (GCC)’s expelled mayor Md Jahangir Alam from the party for life for his ‘anti party activities’.

The party presidium has proposed to expelled him from Awami League for life. The recommendation will be sent to Awami League president Sheikh Hasina soon for a final decision.

The proposal was placed at a meeting of the Awami League presidium held at Sheikh Hasina’s political office on Sunday. The meeting sources said Awami League’s Joint-General Secretary Bahauddin Nasim raised the proposal.

At the meeting, Bahauddin Nasim said Jahangir Alam has been working against the party taking advantage of the pardon from the party. He has lost right to stay at the organisation. He should be expelled from AL for life.

Most of the Awami League presidium members present at the meeting supported the proposal. Awami League
General Secretary Obaidul Quader presided over the meeting.

Jahangir Alam recently defied the party directive and sought to run independently in the Gazipur City Corporation election against the party’s candidate, Advocate Azmat Ullah Khan.

The Election Commission later nullified his candidacy due to his being a loan defaulter.
