Smuggler with 14 gold bars held in Kurigram

One gold smuggler along with 14 bars of gold was held at Fulbari border in Kurigram on Saturday evening.
The arrested is identified as Rabiul Islam Rabi 32 son of Mazibar Rahman of village Dharmapur under Kashipur union of the upazila.Commanding Officer of 15 BGB Battalion of Lalmonirhat Lt. col. Mofazzal Hossain Akand ensured the incident of arrest the youth. He said when the smuggler was going near the international main pillar no 942/8-s of Pachchim Dharmopur border under Kashipur union to smuggle the gold into India, BGB men on special patrol team led by Kashipur BOP commander took position 500 yards inside Bangladesh from the pillar.
When a motor bike reaches there the BGB men challenged him and he tried to escape leaving the bike.
The BGB men chased and caught him from a paddy field.
They searched the motor bike of the smuggler and recovered a packet of gold from the oil tank wrapping with a net bag. Later BGB men opened the bag in front of local elites and recovered 14 gold bar weighing 1633.36 gram (140 vory) worth Tk I cr 40 lacs.
A case was filed in Fulbari thana police and the seized gold has been deposited in Kurigram treasury.
Officer-in-charge of Fulbari Police Station Fazlur Rahman told that a case has filed and the accused will be sent to jail.
