A large number of tourists have flocked to Cox’s Bazar beach, ignoring the warning signal for cyclone ‘Mocha’ formed in the Bay of Bengal. Many tourists have been arriving there to experience the thrill of the sea’s turbulent waters and gusty winds.
Tourists are having fun and making fusses at different points of the beach. Many are busy sea bathing. Tourist police and beach workers are working for the safety of tourists. The lifeguard workers are repeatedly warning not to venture into the sea.
Tariqul Islam came from Chandpur. On Friday (May 12) morning, he took a bath at Laboni Point on the beach.
“Why is he sea bathing amid this unstable situation of the cyclone?” – when asked, Tariqul Islam said that “he mainly came here to witness cyclone Mocha”. “Looking forward to when it arrives. I will be in Cox’s Bazar till May 15, hoping to see the Cyclone Mocha,” he added.
Meanwhile, the sea has become very rough due to the impact of cyclone Mocha. The red-yellow flag has been lowered on the beach and the danger signal ‘red’ flag has been hoisted.
Mohammad Sukkur, a senior lifeguard of the Sea Safe Life Guard Organization, said that the sea is getting rough along with the strong currents. Red flags have been raised to warn tourists. Besides, tourists are not allowed to venture into the water. There are still approximately 10,000 tourists at the 3 points.
Tourist police are on alert at every point on the beach since Friday morning.
“Tourists are being warned. Tourists will be evacuated from the beach to a safer place if the signal goes up,” said Md. Abu Sufian, additional district magistrate of Cox’s Bazar.
