In April of this year, 431 road accidents took place in the country. 497 people were killed and 778 people were injured. Of them, 49 are women and 88 children. 201 people died in 191 motorcycle accidents, which is 40.44 percent of the total deaths. Motorcycle accident rate is 44.31 percent. 109 pedestrians were killed in the accident, which is 21.93 percent of the total fatalities. 71 people, i.e. 14.28 percent, were killed by vehicle drivers and assistants.
This information was announced in a press release signed by Road Safety Foundation Executive Director Saidur Rahman on Saturday (May 13).
According to the notification, 11 people were killed and 3 people are missing in 9 boat accidents in April. 19 people were killed and 67 injured in 16 railway accidents. The organization prepared the report based on information from 9 national dailies, 7 online news portals and electronic media.
According to the statistics of vehicle-wise casualties, motorcyclists and riders accounted for 201 (40.44 percent), bus passengers 14 (2.81 percent), truck-pickup-tractor-trolley-lorry riders 31 (6.23 percent), private cars. Passengers 5 (1 per cent), three-wheeler passengers (easybike-CNG-autorickshaw-autovan-Laguna) 99 (19.91 per cent), passengers in locally made vehicles (Nachiman-Bhavati-Chander car-Mahindra-TomTom-Latahamba) 18 people (3.62 percent) and bicycle-pedal rickshaw-rickshaw van riders 20 (4.2 percent) were killed.
According to the Road Safety Foundation’s monitoring and analysis, 159 (36.89 percent) of the accidents occurred on national highways, 160 (37.12 percent) on regional roads, 71 (16.47 percent) on rural roads, 38 (8.81 percent) on city roads and 3 (zero decimal 69 percent) occurred elsewhere.
Among the accidents, 71 (16.47 percent) involved head-on collisions, 195 (45.24 percent) lost control, 109 (25.29 percent) pedestrians were hit or struck, 35 (8.12 percent) rear-end vehicles, and 21 (4 87 percent) occurred due to other causes.
Among the vehicles involved in the accident, truck-covered van-pickup-tractor-trolley-lorry-drumtruck 27.26 percent, microbus-private car-ambulance-jeep 4.34 percent, passenger bus 12.54 percent, motorcycle 25.69 percent, three -Wheeler (Easybike-CNG-Autorickshaw-Autovan-Laguna) 17.49 percent; Locally made vehicles (Nachiman-Bhavati-Alamsadhu-Chander cars-TomTom-Mahindra-Latahamba-Dhanmarai cars) 6.87 percent, Bicycle-Pedal rickshaws-Rickshaw vans 3.86 percent and others (Police pickups, Wasar water vehicles, Oil tankers) , 24-wheeler lorries, BRT project cranes and unidentified vehicles) 1.93 percent.
The number of vehicles involved in the accident is 829. Among them, trucks 107, buses 104, covered vans 24, pickups 48, tractors 21, trolleys 13, lorries 5, drum trucks 8, microbuses 14, private cars 19, ambulances 2, municipal mayor’s jeep 1, motorcycles 213, three-wheelers 145 (Easybike-CNG-Autorickshaw-Autovan-Laguna), locally made vehicles 57 (Nachiman-Bhatavti-Alamsadhu-Chander Car-TomTom-Mahindra-Latahamba-Dhanmarai Car), Bicycle-Pedal Rickshaw-Rickshaw Van 32 and Others 16 (Police Pickup , Wasar water car, oil tanker, 24-wheeler lorry, BRT project crane and unidentified vehicle).
